Welcome to the Robot Ethics Survey

Engage with others on the issues robotics raises from the nursing home to the battlefield.

Background

As robots leave highly structured environments -- laboratories, factories, and mines -- they will interact with us in new ways and greatly increase in number. Robot toys and appliances in the home, therapeutic and care robots in nursing homes, and robot weapons on the battlefield all may raise ethical issues. This survey is about the ethics of designing and using various kinds of robots. We focus on existing technologies and note where a scenario speculates on a future technology.

Instructions

The survey consists of 9 questions and should take 10 to 15 minutes to complete.

You will be asked to give your answer to the question in form of a reason; it will look like this:

You will see a list of the reasons provided so far, ranked with the most popular appearing first. Ranking rewards (with prominence) reasons that more participants are willing to embrace. We encourage you to either choose an existing reason if one is reasonably close to your own thinking, or add a new reason if you need to. Later participants will be able to see your new reason. Authors' usernames follow their contributions to allow referencing but are not linked to authors' account details or email.
